2013 Hawaii State Championship Regatta | PHOTOS

At the Hawaii State Championship Regatta you will find the sport of Hawaiian canoe paddling at its peak. Generations of canoe paddlers from keiki (kids) to kupuna (elders) join to race and test their speed and turning skills. With 41 divisions in all, races last from morning to night, koa-canoeduring which time dreams are made into reality or expectations crushed by the heavy competition of fierce athletes all fighting for a win. Win or lose there is joy and laughter everywhere you go, as friends and family join to celebrate our great sport and finale to the sprint regatta season. This year, states was held in beautiful Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai, canoes used for this event are all made from Koa wood and are each valued at over $100,000 monetary, yet priceless to the club and its members.

One of our community team members was on site to snap some photos and take in the views, we hope you enjoy this glimpse into Hawaii State Championships and can some day visit Hawaii during this event. Kauai hosts states every 6 years, so make your plans for 2019 as on the following day you can compete in an OC1 / SUP race (Na Pali Race), or a 40 mile OC6 distance race (Na Pali Challenge). Congrats to the team, they won in a time of 11:00.65, 17 seconds ahead of 2nd place, wow!
